Frequently Asked Questions
Q. When does my Year in the Life sessions start and end?
A. The year starts in January 1st and ends on December 31.
Q. Are there blackout dates of when I can not book a session?
A. Yes, there are some dates that will not be available. However, if scheduled in advance, I will be reserving some holidays throughout the year only for Documember photo sessions.
Q. I love this idea! But I have a hard time planning what we're eating for dinner tonight, let a lone what I'll want photographed for a year! Where do I even start?
A. I totally get it. Parental bandwidth is precious. That is why I have a system to help prioritize the important events that you will want photographed. When you book you become a Documember I will be with you every step of the way to make sure you get the most out of your Year in the Life of photos.
Q. What happens after each photo session? Do I really need to wait a whole year to see my photos?
A. Nope! You will have online gallery access to your slideshow and photos approx 2-3 weeks after each photo session. The gallery will be open for 1 week where owners can view, download and purchase printed products at a discounted price. After your last photo session, I will send over an album design proof of your Year Long Storybook.
Q. Wait, are you saying I don't have to sort through all my photos from the year and spend hours trying to make a Shutterfly book?
A. Yup! Your Year Long Storybook is professionally photographed, designed, archivally printed, and shipped to your doorstep. Your Storybook will be curated to include select photos from all sessions from the year.
Q. When will I receive my Year in the Life Storybook Album?
A. Your Year in the Life Album and Time Capsule Slideshow will be sent to you by February 1st following calendar year.
Q. Am I supposed to feed you while you shoot? What am I supposed to provide during our sessions?
A. Yes, you are required to provide my meal(s) for sessions 3 hours or longer. However, I promise I am not a picky eater. My only weird food restriction is quinoa (ask me about it during our session!) Most clients just place an extra place setting at the table for me.
For full Day in the Life sessions, you are responsible for my lodging the night before our session (and after if the session is not local).
Q. What about access? If we go to an amusement park, do I need to pay for your ticket?
A. Yes, you will responsible to provide access for me anywhere you plan to have photographic coverage (i.e. admission/entrance fees, train or metro rides) If you are driving, I'll need a seat in your car to wherever you're going. My bottom has squished between many carseats in the past!
Q. Who owns the copyright of the images taken during my session?
A. Original copyright of all images created during your session remains with the photographer (Julia Chang-Lomonico). Clients receive a limited copyright release to use purchased images for personal use only. Meaning you can share on your personal social media accounts (tagging me), and print as many copies to grandma's content! If you ever have question on when and where photos can be used (i.e. in a publication or 3rd party use) feel free have that 3rd party contact me directly.
Q. What if I'm not quite ready to commit to a full Documembership?

About the photographer
Each family has a story to tell. A story that is steeped in chaos, laughter, and the everyday minutiae of family life. A story that is ultimately about love. Julia, a North Jersey documentary family photographer, is passionate about capturing these stories to show families the love and compassion that they can’t often see for themselves.
Julia’s own story is one that is woven around the family and friends that are her creative inspiration. She is a wearer of many hats: daughter and sister, food lover, aspiring yogi, karaoke diva, loving wife, and rock-star mom to two little girls.
Photography has always been the channel through which she documents the different stories of her life and she has turned her passion into a business of doing the same for the families she works with. She continues to seek out new families and new stories to tell with the same care, kindness, and humor she uses to document her own family.
